What causes ‘Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document’?
There are different reasons as to why this error pops up whenever you try to open a PSD and PDF files in Photoshop. The major reasons for it are:
- The file may have been saved with a different extension. For say, you ended up saving the file with a .PSD extension even though it was a different type of file. This tends to cause an error when you open the file in Photoshop later on.

Solution 1: Change the file to a different extension
If the error is down to the issue with the file extension, then you can simply change the extension of the file and solve the error. When a file is saved with a different extension, even though it is not corrupted, it tends to show the error. You can easily change the extension type to its correct one.
Solution 2: Resave the file with a software
You can use any of the open-source image manipulation software and resave the PSD file. This will change the file into proper PSD format and will allow Photoshop to easily open it. If the file itself is corrupted then there may be some loss in pixelating. But most of the time this works fine.
